Theatre New Brunswick invite Syrian refugee families to experience live theatre this season.

web(Fredericton) Theatre New Brunswick is proud to announce its participation in a new initiative funded through the Canada Council for the Arts that will see more than 230 tickets distributed to Syrian refugee families in the Greater Fredericton Area over the coming season.

The program, Welcome To The Arts, was first announced in the spring of 2016 inviting arts organizations from across the country to participate. Theatre New Brunswick joins with over 60 other organizations whose work has been selected to be part of this one-time initiative.

“Theatre New Brunswick is honoured and grateful to be partnering with the Canada Council for the Arts and the Multicultural Association of Fredericton to bring Syrian refugees and their families to three plays in our season,” said TNB Artistic Director Thomas Morgan Jones.

“The theatre is a place for a community to come together to share (and share in) stories.  What better way to meet our new neighbours than in a place where we can all experience imagination, inspiration, and ideas about the world we live in together?”

Through this program, TNB will provide tickets to three world premiere productions by New Brunswick playwrights: A Sunday Affair, The Snow Queen and The Boat.

Tickets will be distributed by the Multicultural Association of Fredericton, an organization whose work has been instrumental in settling many new families in and around the Fredericton area.

“More than anything,” said Jones, “we hope this gives these families a welcome to the arts in Fredericton that makes them feel at home in our shared community.”
