Theatre School Leader in Training Program

Grades 6 +

TRAINING DAY Thursday June 27 9-4 PM

The Leader in Training Program is an opportunity for students in grades 6 and up to learn and build confidence in instruction and arts leadership. Participants will attend a day-long training workshop where they will learn about breaking down and leading warm ups, games, and activities for different age groups, the basics of blocking and choreographing, problem solving and student safety, and how to assist with props and other production needs. Participants will be scheduled to volunteer and assist with a Theatre School summer camp where they will get to learn from our Summer Theatre School Instructors and gain hands-on experience with our theatre school students.

Grades K-2 

JULY 2-5  9 AM- 12PM *Four Day Camp due to Canada Day

Through theatre games, storytelling, and movement, students will explore and expand their creativity, imagination. The program will culminate in an open class where they will share the games, exercises, and play they have been working on throughout the week.

Junior Acting
Grades 3 – 5
JULY 8-12  9 AM- 5 PM

Students receive introductory training in acting while embarking on a story creation process that focuses on scene development, character creation, improvisation and collaboration. Through games and exercises, students will work to find characters and stories that will be refined into a final piece.

Junior Musical Theatre 1
Grades 3 – 5
JULY 15-19  9 AM- 5 PM 

Students receive introductory training in dance,  acting, and singing through games, exercises, and bringing to life scenes and songs from a well loved musical.

JULY 22-26 9 AM- 5 PM

Students receive introductory training in dance,  acting, and singing through games, exercises, and bringing to life scenes and songs from a well loved musical.

Intermediate Musical Theatre
Grades 6 – 8

JULY 29-AUGUST 2  9 AM- 5 PM

Students study intermediate acting, dance, and vocal technique as they bring to life scenes and songs from a well loved musical.

Intermediate Senior Acting

Grades 6-8

AUGUST 6-9  9 AM- 5 PM *Four Day Camp due to New Brunswick Day

Students study acting theory, movement and voice as well as different forms of performance and storytelling through various workshops. Students will also use scene work and monologues to explore acting technique, voice work, and character development. These scenes and monologues will be shared in a final cabaret style performance.

Improv for Teens with Solo Chicken
Grades 9-12

Jump into the world of improvisation in this fun and lighthearted summer camp for teens! Expand your creative toolbox, make new friends, and have some fun! Improv for Teens is suitable for first-time performers or folks looking to continue their artistic journey.  The camp finishes with an informal showcase for friends and family.

Spirit Project Junior Camp with Solo Chicken
Grades 6-12 (Recent Grads & Family/Support Workers Welcome)
JULY 8-12  10 AM – 3 PM
LOCATION: The Charlotte Street Arts Center (Auditorium)
INSTRUCTORS: Kaylee MacNeil

The Spirit Project Junior Summer Camp is a one week extravaganza where teens with and without intellectual and/or physical disabilities, Autism and/or dual diagnosis can come together to flex their artistic muscles, make new friends, and celebrate the start of summer.  Over the course of the week participants will play games, sing, dance, make art and more importantly build friendships and have a blast.  The camp is offered by Solo Chicken in partnership with The Charlotte Street Arts Centre and Theatre New Brunswick and will take place in the beautiful Charlotte Street Arts Centre Auditorium.
