    Payment 

    If you are not paying via credit card, show fees are to be paid to the Stage Manager the day of the performance by cheque made payable to Theatre New Brunswick.

    Cancellation Policy

    Weather Cancellations

    • Performances canceled due to inclement weather and school closures will be rescheduled when possible; otherwise the option of a full refund or a full credit for a performance for the following season is available.

    School Cancellations

    • If your school must cancel your scheduled performance, 50% of your payment will be refunded up to one week prior to the performance, after which there are no refunds for cancellations.

    Student Seating

    Unless seating is provided, the students will be seated on the floor. Teachers and school representatives are responsible for their own seating and should be present for the entire performance. 

    Performance Space

    Please Provide the Following:

    • access to the space one hour before the performance

    • a minimum playing space of 22’ wide and 20’ deep with a 10’ ceiling height.

    • a single isolated household electrical outlet (preferably backstage).

    • two tables: one for props 2’ wide by 5’ long; another for sound (large enough for at least 2 laptops)

    • a changing area near the playing space and out of view of the students.

    • a technician/custodian to turn on theatre/gym lights, lift basketball hoops, etc.

In a new initiative, Theatre New Brunswick’s Young Company will be traveling across New Brunswick to offer drama club and class support and specialized theatre workshops for schools across New Brunswick. 

Our company of professional theatre artists and instructors will make themselves available to schools as they prepare for a production, develop an original piece, or simply want assistance building confidence, creativity, and connectivity. No matter the goal, Theatre New Brunswick can work with you to create an experience that fits your classroom.

The Story Lab Mission

Theatre New Brunswick, and its Theatre School, has a long history of inspiring students across New Brunswick. We believe that theatre education hones the various skills that are critical to students' success onstage and off. It is our hope with story lab to begin expanding our theatre school methodology to students across NB who otherwise wouldn’t get the opportunity to walk through our halls.

Lesson Plans at Work!

For teachers who want to provide a rich drama class/club experience to their students, you know there’s so much more to mounting a production than what a lesson plan lays out. With Story Lab, you can connect and collaborate with experienced professionals familiar with managing drama classrooms and productions. With our flexible design, we can provide short intensive workshops that focus on building skills, longer workshops workshopping scenes in your upcoming shows, or recurring visits that guide students through the creation process of an original work.

We can accommodate different sizes of groups. Group minimum 10 students, maximum 50 students per session.

Alex Rioux - Director

  • Alex is a theatre producer, performer, and educator based in Wolastoqey Territory. Through their internship with Solo Chicken Productions, Alex began their professional practice under the guidance of Lisa Anne Ross to develop and execute new works of physical theatre and innovative community programming. It was through Solo Chicken that Alex began development on their physical-theatre production ‘Fruit Machine’, which made its debut at the 2023 Notable Acts Theatre Festival.

    Alex has also worked closely with Theatre New Brunswick in a multitude of capacities, and it’s here that they’ve been mentored on producing and directing by AD Natasha MacLellan. Throughout the years, they’ve directed and produced for several local companies such as NotaBle Acts Theatre and Bard in the Barracks. Alex acted as the Artistic and Executive Director of the Braver Stages Festival, NB's premiere festival for the fostering and promotion of 2SLGBTIA+ theatre works, and in that time produced 7 original New Brunswick scripts. They also served as the Interim Artistic Director at the acclaimed Ship’s Theatre Company in Parrsboro, NS.
